Discover A Hobby That Can Keep You Engaged In Your Retirement

A hobby is something that you enjoy doing in your spare time. It is an interest, a recreation or activity that you spend time on for pleasure and for relaxation.

When you retire from work you will have time to indulge in your favourite hobby or pastime that will help to overcome your boredom. You may also want to try out new hobbies and learn new skills.

You can learn most of the skills from books, DVDs or attend classes that teach them.

Here is a list of 10 popular categories of hobbies you can try.

1. Arts and Crafts - creating objects for functional and decorative purposes such as making candles, ceramic plates and executive toys, jewellery making, making porcelain figurines, glass sculpting, quilting;

2. Collectibles - collecting art, paintings, antiques, beautiful dolls, memorabilia, model scale cars and trains, vintage wine, unique cars, stamps, ancient coins, number plates;

3. Outdoor activities - gardening, bird watching, angling, train and plane spotting, horse riding, cycling, camping, scuba diving, white water rafting, mountain climbing, treasure hunting, trekking;

4. Culinary activities - cooking, making fruit preserves, bread making, baking cakes and cake decorating, making dumplings and pastas;

5. Dancing and music - ballroom dancing, line dancing, hip hop dancing, flamenco, belly dancing, tap dancing, karaoke singing, learning to play a musical instrument;

6. Sporting activities - golfing, martial arts, figure skating, skiing, sailing and boating, gymnastics, darts and snooker, bowling;

7. Indoor activities - sewing, embroidery, knitting, quilting, painting and decorating, plumbing, reading and writing;

8. Paper crafts - making paper mache masks, origami paper folding crafts, making paper flowers, making paper lanterns, making cardboard boxes and folders

9. Cultural activities - theatres, concerts, cinemas, eating out and fine dining, museums, partying and socialising, pub crawling

10. Travelling - golf trips, fishing trips, theatre breaks, city breaks, cruise packages, beech vacations, ski vacations.

Many people, while enjoying their favourite pastimes, have also turned their hobby into a business and supplementing their retirement income by writing books about their hobby or selling their products locally or on eBay.

For instance, if you enjoy going on golf trips or going on cruise packages, you can write a book on your golf trips or the interesting places you've visited during your cruises.

You can also run your own classes to teach others the skills you learned from your favourite pastime. If you enjoy baking cakes or making fruit preserves, you can sell your products in your local market.

This is a great way to earn extra retirement income while having fun.

Four Great Unique and Personal Wedding Gifts

Soon the bride will be standing there in her flowing white wedding gown, the groom in his pressed tuxedo, and you want to give them both a great unique wedding gift to help them celebrate the occasion. But not something from a box store off of the registry, you really want something that has a personal touch. Check out these ideas that are sure to get you started in the right direction.

A Cover Up

There's nothing more relaxing and comforting than laying down in your bed after a long day of work. The soft cushion on your back, and the warm blankets around you. Imagine the newly weds cuddling up under a handmade quilt that you got for them, just before they doze off to sleep. If you don't have the time or skill to make a quilt from scratch, then talk to your local quilting/sewing shop. They will tell you how to get in touch with someone who can get/make you a handmade quilt - Odds are you'll even be able to participate in the design process to make it more personal.

A Look Back

As the years go by, the newly weds will want to stop and remember their times together. Their wedding day, in particular, will be filled with fond and happy memories. They will have pictures to look at from their hired photographer, but you can add a personal touch, by taking your digital video recorder, and recording all the action. Interview their friends, ask them to talk about the newly weds, and about the wedding. Talk to their parents, and leave a special message from yourself on the end. When you're done, download it to your computer, and burn it onto a DVD, and give it to the new couple when they get back from their honeymoon. The newly weds will always love this stroll down memory lane.

Memories

Everyone enjoys looking at pictures and remembering when..... Talk to the newly weds parents/grandparents and friends, and see if they have any photos or special memories they would like to share with the newly weds. Get digital copies of the photos and download them onto a nice digital photo frame. They will be able to look at these great photo you saved for them, and as the years go by they will add more and more!

Upgrade Em!

The newly weds are going on a honeymoon after the wedding. It will be a fun, enjoyable and memorable time for both of them. You can help make it more enjoyable by upgrading their flight to first class. Or you could pay for a Luxury Hotel Suite. This can all be worked out by contacting their parents and/or family members well ahead of time, and letting them know what you want to do. They will be glad to help you, and will know the details of the newly weds honeymoon. And the new couple will enjoy all the extra luxury that you arranged for them.

Everyone's wants to give the newly weds a great wedding gift, but adding a personal touch to yours will make it memorable and unique. The new couple will cherish it for years.
