A slightly bent or funky needle can cause this symptom. Machines are generally timed with a size 80 needle, so this will give it probably the best chance of success. About the only thing I can think of fixable at home would be impacted dust bunnies or having been lubricated with the type of oil (like 3-in-1) that hardens over time and freezes the machine. When you clean a machine, use vacuum and brush, not compressed air (it blows lint in further) and always use real sewing machine oil ($2 for a bottle at wallyworld or any sewing machine shop or fabric store). Do not use 3-in-1 type oils (they harden eventually) or WD-40 type stuff (it's a solvent, not a lubricant) (and we will not speak of the machine that came to me after having been repeatedly oiled with extra virgin olive oil -- whadda mess). |
